A Government of Nauru led operation supported by the Australian Defence Force and allied nations will take place to dispose of Explosive Remnants of War found since 2023. This activity will be localised at Topside on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th of May 2024. Unlike previous Operation Render Safe missions conducted in Nauru, there will be minimal impact to the people of Nauru outside of Topside.
Minor disruption to commercial and Government interests in the vicinity of Topside will be limited to 9.00am to 12.00pm on Wednesday and 9.00am to 2.30pm on Thursday. We request people avoid Topside during this period, particularly the area denoted by the large blue circle (see picture map).
The Nauru Police Force will establish a cordon area and roadblocks during the activity periods. These are at a safe distance for the public. The disposal site will contain the blast and fragmentation from the operations.
