The AFP’s police cooperation objectives in Nauru align with shared priorities in both Nauru and the Pacific region.
The Nauru-Australia Policing Partnership (N-APP) reflects the current need for the AFP to support the NPF to prioritise its training capability, identified by the Minister for Police and the NPF Commissioner as a key outcome.
The broad 10-year goal of the Partnership is that the Nauru Police Force is a professional, effective and trusted community-based police service.
To this point, the AFP has directed financial resources and exclusively allocated the AFP Operations Advisor to the Learning and Development Division, to assist to evaluate capability, address issues and build learning materials, governance, and infrastructure to support the KPIs as set out in the NPF Strategic Plan. This includes virtual learning capability necessitated by the global pandemic.
The next goal is for AFP Operations Advisor to move focus to Frontline Operations, where the results of professional development training can be assessed and supported in an operational capacity, developing capability further and making recommendations where knowledge gaps are identified.
