Four Nauruan athletes competed today (Sunday 27 July) in weightlifting, boxing and athletics.

 

Eighteen year old Tom-Jaye Waibeiya started the day in the men’s 77kg weightlifting B group. His best snatch lift was 105kg and his best clean & jerk lift is 145kg.

 

In the 100 metre sprints Joshua Jeremiah ran 11.46 seconds but Chrisssa Detenamo was eliminated from running due to a false start in her heat.

 

Later in the day Nauru’s final boxer Alfonse Deireragea fought against Kenyan Nicholas Okongo Okoth but lost the preliminary match eliminating him for competition.

 

Team Nauru’s final competitor is super heavy weight lifter Itte Detenamo. Itte has won silver and bronze medals in previous Commonwealth Games and hopes to grab a gold medal this time round.

 

However he has tough competition with a few other good lifters in his division of 105+kg category.

 

Itte’s event is on Thursday 31 July.

TJ cleans 140 kilos in his second attempt.
